San Jose, CA – 2001/07/09 - Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in thin-appliance computing, today announced the release of the Wyse ™ 8440XL and 8630LE Windows® Custom-Application Terminals (WinCAT). The 8440XL and 8630LE are Windows NT Embedded-based terminals offering new levels of flexibility, including expanded multimedia capabilities, total remote management and support for a wider range of peripherals and removable media.

Introducing the New WinCAT Terminals

The WinCAT 8440XL and 8630LE are the latest thin appliances in Wyse's arsenal tailored to meet the evolving desktop needs of CIOs. The 8440XL and 8630LE allow companies to embed vital 32-bit Windows applications such as Windows media player, virtual private network applications or other industry-specific applications on the thin appliance. Companies can turn to Wyse for custom software builds as well, providing added flexibility.

The 8440XL is ideal for environments that require the reliability and flexibility of a server-based desktop device, but may require support for revolving media such as a hard drive, floppy drive or CD-ROM. Wyse 8630LE integrates the terminal with a 15-inch digital multimedia LCD display. This all-in-one device is ideal for businesses that want to view dynamic multimedia content and utilize a standard suite of office productivity applications, while leveraging the remote management capabilities of a thin appliance.

CIOs deploying these new Wyse thin appliances have the option of leveraging Wyse's Rapport device management software for software distribution, device diagnostics, device configuration and asset management. By combining Wyse's WinCAT thin appliances and the Rapport management software within the enterprise, CIOs can further drive down their total cost of ownership, while enabling greater scalability and all-around performance of their IT infrastructure.

The Wyse 8440XL and 8630LE are available through Wyse Authorized Partners worldwide. Estimated street prices for the 8440XL start at $737 with prices as low as $679 for volumes of 250 or more. There are ten configurations of the 8440XL to meet varying customer needs. Street pricing on the integrated 8630LE starts at $1,699, with prices as low as $1,549 for volumes of 250 or more.
