Wyse Technology Fuels Growing Demand for Thin Appliances Through Hot Summer Rebates

New Manufacturer's Rebates Drive Down End User Prices for Wyse's Most Popular Thin Devices

San Jose, CA – 2001/07/10 - Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in thin-appliance computing, today announced a major summer factory rebate promotion to fuel the market's growing demand for thin-appliance solutions. With instant rebates granted to Wyse distributors and direct resellers ranging from $20 to $240 on nine of Wyse's most popular thin appliances, Wyse expects end-user volume street prices for its thin appliances to range from under $350 for Wyse's Windows or ICA terminals, to under $600 for models of Wyse's 8000 series Windows Custom Application Terminals.

"These incredible rebates make thin appliances even more affordable for companies and organizations struggling to control IT costs in a weak economy, where expenditure budgets are under the strictest scrutiny," said George Skaff, vice president of worldwide marketing for Wyse. "Not only do thin appliances reduce the cost of managing and servicing desktop computing by more than 50 percent, and lower power usage by up to 80 percent compared to PCs, they now cost substantially less than business-class PCs while lasting twice as long. It is our responsibility as the market leader to help fuel this growth and support our distributors and resellers with new programs such as the price rebates announced today."

The need for thin appliances is clear. International Data Corporation forecasts the market may grow as high as 10 million units by 2005, while in the retail sector, a recent report by RetailTech Magazine and PricewaterhouseCoopers indicates that thin clients will grow nearly 300 percent in the next two years to challenge the dominance of the PC in that major sector.

Wyse Technology successfully secured the number one position in the thin-client market in 2000 for the fourth consecutive year, based on the latest report from International Data Corporation's (IDC). According to bulletin #01C2964 from IDC (1) in Framingham, MA, Wyse Technology secured 38.1 percent of the overall worldwide enterprise thin-client market. Additionally, Wyse manufactured nearly 50 percent of all thin clients sold in 2000 when including thin clients sold by OEM partners.
