JW Marriott Miami and Wyse® Technology Deliver Internet Access to Hotel Guests

Wyse Thin Appliances Meet The Computing Needs of Today's Travelers by Providing a Cost Effective and Easy to Use Desktop Device

Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in thin appliance computing, announced today that JW Marriott Miami has deployed Wyse ™ thin appliances to provide Internet access and popular computing applications directly to hotel guests in their rooms. Travelers can now leave laptops at home and access free high-speed Internet connectivity and Windows applications from the convenience of this in-room device in the five-star JW Marriott. All types of travelers, from businesspeople to vacationers, are able to access personal or corporate e-mail accounts, surf the Internet and write Word and Excel documents in the privacy of their hotel rooms.

The JW Marriott chose Wyse thin appliances after reviewing several options, including personal computers and interactive television. Wyse thin appliances deliver the same applications as the personal computer, but are easier to maintain, are more cost effective to deploy and manage, use less energy and have a sleek design that is compatible with the luxury hotel environment. All software and data is stored on a server that is centrally located in the hotel where a single IT professional can manage all of the thin appliances, increasing security and lowering maintenance costs. Wyse thin appliances are designed to be compact, silent and unobtrusive, adding a classy modern touch to the state of the art JW Marriott hotel.

"In order to better meet the needs of our guests, we wanted to install an in-room system which provides convenient Internet access," said Gonzalo Aguilar, general manager of JW Marriott Miami. "We chose Wyse terminals because they are Windows 2000 compatible, provide a locked-down secure system with no moving parts that users could tamper with, are managed centrally and have a sleek look which blends in with the room designs. Since installing the system, we have received positive feedback from guests who have commented that they appreciate the having access to the Internet from their hotel rooms."

JW Marriott turned to Corporate Systems Group, a Wyse Technology Authorized Reseller, to develop their in-room computing strategy while in the planning stages for the hotel. After reviewing the options, JW Marriott chose to outfit their rooms with the state of the art Wyse 3200LE models. With the assistance of Corporate Systems Group, JW Marriott succeeded in opening the hotel with the Wyse thin appliances in place.

"The Wyse 3200LE provides hotel guests with direct access to the technology they are accustomed to having at home and in the office such as Internet, personal or corporate e-mail accounts and Windows-based documents," said George Skaff, vice president of worldwide marketing for Wyse Technology. "By choosing Wyse thin appliances over PCs, the hotel industry gains the benefits of computing while avoiding costly and time-consuming IT headaches. PCs are subject to network borne viruses and need to be individually serviced by IT staff when troubleshooting or updating software. Wyse thin appliances can be maintained by a single IT manager who has the ability to monitor the system from a remote desktop, ensuring hotel guest privacy and security, saving the hotel industry valuable staffing hours, and reducing the overall total cost of ownership."
