Wyse Technology Helps Users Drive Down Computing Costs at Citrix iForum 2001 with New Secure, Managed Thin Clients
New Cost-Effective Thin Clients and Real World Demonstrations Illustrate How To Improve Enterprise Security, Protect Mission-Critical Data and Keep Businesses Running Smoothly
Orlando, Fla. –
2001/10/29 -
Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in secure, managed thin clients, will illustrate how thin clients can create a more secure enterprise than personal computers as a Platinum sponsor at Citrix iForum 2001. Wyse will introduce two new secure and managed thin clients, provide a series of real world examples of thin-client implementations and deliver several thin-client seminars at this year's conference. Hosted by Citrix Systems, Inc., iForum 2001 will take place from October 29-November 1, 2001 at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Wyse's secure managed thin clients help maximize IT budgets while minimizing the risk of unauthorized access to mission-critical information. thin clients deliver the key elements of security - authorization, authentication, integrity and confidentiality - through four levels of security that complement the server-based software provided by Citrix. This includes a first-level user-name and password security shield built directly into the thin client, protecting the server from unauthorized access, support for smart cards as a form of two-factor authentication and support for biometric authentication devices (three-factor) that verify the thumbprint of the user when access to the system is desired, the use of Citrix® SecureICA protocol, providing up to 128-bit end-to-end encryption of a Citrix ICA® data-stream, and the elimination of local storage that can be hacked or fail, causing important communication like e-mail to be corrupted, modified or simply not to be received.
"Our customers' needs continue to evolve, and we will demonstrate how a Wyse/Citrix environment is driving down computing costs while delivering reliable, secure access to information and enabling the remote protection of mission-critical data," said George Skaff, vice president of worldwide marketing for Wyse Technology. "Our clients have long experienced the cost savings and simplified management benefits of thin clients, which we've now extended even further by bundling every Wyse we ship with our management software suite."
Wyse is bundling every thin-client model with the Wyse management software suite, which includes the simple WyseWorks Remote Administrator and comprehensive industry leading Rapport Workgroup Edition management software. With Wyse's Rapport and WyseWorks Remote Administrator, businesses are being armed with a comprehensive management tool capable of handling up to 200 users in an installation and with the purchase of an optional enterprise upgrade, up to tens of thousands of users across multiple branch office and management locations. Management tools are core to protecting a business' investment in desktop technologies, simplifying tasks that would otherwise place a significant strain on IT staffs while ensuring maximum benefit from thin-client installations
Wyse Presents Best Practices in the Thin-Client Market
Highlighting Wyse's participation at the annual conference will be a session on security and business continuance best practices in the thin-client industry by Wyse's Vice President of Market Strategy, Jeff McNaught. This year's event also lends support to the concept of the virtual office, and flexible alternatives to the PC. In his presentation, McNaught will detail the PC-alternative benefits of deploying thin-client devices over PCs, with supporting information from the experiences of Con-Way Transportation Systems. McNaught will explain the real-world benefits experienced by this Fortune 500 company, and how moving from PCs to thin clients allowed them to gain control of their IT budget. The session is entitled "Kicking the PC Habit: How Con-Way Transportation Systems Saved Money and Gained Control with Thin Clients."
"Citrix is committed to building the products and technologies that support the growing trend towards a remote workforce," said Roger Rose, Citrix vice president, corporate development, global enterprise alliances. "By enabling businesses of all sizes to quickly and cost-effectively deploy and access best-in-class applications, Wyse thin clients can further enhance the time and cost-savings organizations need in these tough economic times."
