About Thin Client @ School Contest
The Thin Client @ School Contest, co-sponsored by National Semiconductor, Wyse Technology and Citrix Systems, was launched in 2001, attracting more than 100 schools and school districts from all over the country. Loogootee (Indiana) Jr./Sr. High School won the contest by outlining a creative plan to use thin clients to transform its current career center into a fully accessible and highly functional Career Futures eCenter. Available to all students, educators, parents and people in the community, the new eCenter will enhance the school's ability to provide information via thin-client/server-based computing applications.
About Thin Client Technology
A thin client is a desktop appliance with no hard drive, floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, or other moving components. Computing power, storage, applications and data are centralized on the server, providing users with easy desktop access to the latest educational tools. Centralized maintenance and updates reduce support costs, provide reliable access to information, and improve control of student access. Due to its ease-of-use and -maintenance, lower cost of total ownership (TCO) and reliability, thin-client technology is ideal in meeting the computing needs of K-12 schools.
