Wyse Broadens Linux Portfolio to Address Expanding Market

Wyse® ™ 5125SE and 5455XL Deliver Power, Flexibility and Expandability to Businesses Seeking a Linux Platform at Industry's Lowest Cost

San Jose, CA – 2003/07/14 - Wyse Technology, the domain experts in server-centric computing, today broadened its Linux-based thin-client portfolio with the introduction of two new thin clients, the Wyse 5125SE and the 5455XL. The new products address the rapidly expanding Linux thin-client market that grew 82 percent worldwide last year according to industry research firm IDC, and allow Wyse to maintain its dominance of the worldwide thin-client market.

With these new products, Wyse now offers two additional Linux-based thin client platforms. The 5125SE provides a powerful, reliable low-cost thin-client offering to run server-based UNIX, Linux and Java applications. The Flexible 5455XL adds the ability to run Java applications on the desktop and combines PC-like performance with the security, reliability and management benefits that have become the recognized hallmark of Wyse thin clients.

According to analyst reports, the 2002 Linux market for thin-clients grew by 82% globally (IDC). To support this growth, Wyse is bringing to market a new, low-cost Powerful platform in the 5125SE as well as a, high-end Flexible platform (able to run local applications) in the 5455XL. The 5455XL offers IT managers a wide variety of hardware and software configuration choices to fit seamlessly into their organization. The terminal delivers server-based UNIX, Linux and Windows applications to the desktop and adds the ability to run local Java applications directly on the client. Built on a rugged metal chassis with legacy ports and expandable storage, it provides businesses that have invested in open-source computing with the flexibility to deploy a desktop client that is tailored to meet their individual hardware and software needs.

The 5125SE provides the speed and security of a Wyse thin client and is ideally suited for X-Windows, Linux and UNIX software environments. Encased in a compact, attractive chassis, the 5125SE can be mounted on a wall or under a desk to fit into tight spaces and provides USB and legacy ports to connect to a wide variety of office equipment.

Both Linux-based thin clients come bundled with Rapport™ for Wyse, the thin client management software that empowers IT administrators to manage, maintain and upgrade devices from a central location. Rapport, which supports more client devices than any other management offering, allows IT administrators to significantly reduce IT maintenance and management costs and empower businesses to maximize their IT investment.

The 5125SE is offered for the estimated customer price of $399 for a Flash/RAM memory configuration of 32/64MB RAM. The 5455XL is available at an estimated customer price of $499 for a Flash/RAM memory configuration of 64/128MB RAM. Both models are also available in custom configurations with many peripheral options, including CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, additional RAM, and wireless Wi-Fi 802.11b.
