Thin-Client Power Usage Lowers Total Cost of Ownership by Using One-Tenth the Electricity of Traditional PCs

SAN JOSE, Calif. – 2006/06/15 - Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced new green computing research, which demonstrates how organizations can cut desktop energy costs tenfold by deploying thin-computing architectures. While the average traditional desktop guzzles over 80 watts of electricity, Wyse thin clients use about 7 watts -- or 8 watts with overhead from the central server included.

The result is significant cost savings for a customer, which further lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO) for thin computing architectures. Many companies and countries around the world are recognizing the importance of energy savings at the workplace.

"Traditional PCs pump electricity into idle processors, spinning hard drives and local cooling systems -- a tremendous waste of resources," said Jeff McNaught, Vice President, Marketing and Customer Support at Wyse Technology.
